Recently, a group of 40 students of the 2015 batch at the Maharaja Institute of Medical Sciences (M.I.M.S), Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh spent a day with the AIM for Seva Chatralayam for Boys, Bobbili (Vizianagaram) children. The students are in the seventh semester of their M.B.B.S course.
This initiative was organized by the United Front of Medicos. The medico students brought with them daily essentials and stationeries for the Chatralayam pupils. These included –125 kgs rice, 21 school bags, 1 iron box.1, 15 litres oil, 20 kg idly rava, 20 kg Bombay rava, 13 kg pulses, 1first aid kit, 18 notebooks and 200 pens. The food donors to the Bobbili Chatralayam were mostly doctor parents of the students and other prominent businessmen from the region.
A special meal was organised on this occasion. On their part, the students at the Bobbili Chatralayam put up a song and dance show for the M.I.M.S. students that were thoroughly enjoyed by them. There are 61 boys residing in this hostel.
The M.B.B.S students from M.I.M.S planted a tree in the Bobbili Chatralayam premises and it looked greener than ever. One by one our Chatralayams are going green and the latest to join the list is Bobbili where solar panels were installed recently. Sri. N.P.S.R Krishna and Smt. Vijayalaxmi are donors to this cause.
Sharing details of the Chatralayam visit, Ms. Nihita Koneru, a 7th semester student at M.I.M.S. said that the whole experience was very gratifying and the students are planning to hold a similar programme soon. “Students from our college have been visiting the Bobbili Chatralayam since 2012 through the aegis of United Front of Medicos.”
Located in Vizianagaram, United Front of Medicos is a charity organisation that tackles the ills of poverty and illiteracy and health and well being of the community in the region. Apart from the AIM for Seva Chatralayam for Boys, Bobbili, United Front of Medicos is also associated with another NGO, Hand in Hand in the same area, a blind school and an old age home in Rajam, Dwarakamaya Blind School and Shishu Gruha both located in Vizianagaram, a blind school in Sagar Nagar and Priyadarshini old Age Home in Vishkapatanam.
