We live in a fragile biosphere. One way to make the future generation environmentally conscious is to create awareness in them while they are young.
We practice sustainable living in various ways. Today, 58 of our Chatralayams are powered with solar energy. Our respect to the environment also extends to the flora and fauna with 64 of our hostels having a kitchen garden, 19 having a goshala and 8 Chatralayams having a Gobar Gas facility.
Towards this end, the Swami Dayananda Matric Higher Secondary School, Manjakkudi celebrated Vanamahotsav-2019 in the school campus on July 9. The focus was on a green canope in the region.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was Sri. L. Krishnamoorthy, forest range officer, Tiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. The programme began with the Chief Guest hoisting the national flag. School correspondent Sri. MG Srinivasan then felicitated the Chief Guest and gave a brief address.
After his thought provoking address, the Chief Guest planted saplings at the south end of the school. He then flagged off the rally. Our students (from class 8 and 9) and teachers took out a rally till Samathuvapuram and they planted few saplings there too.
World environment Day was celebrated across our Chatralayams last month.
