Mobile Medical Services and Specialized Medical Camps
There are several thousand people in India, especially in villages located in remote corners of the country, who do not gain access to good medical care for a variety of reasons. In some cases, it is due to the lack of a healthcare facility in the vicinity. In others, old age and lack of transport makes it difficult for the villagers to access such facilities, even if there is a hospital or a healthcare centre in the surrounding area.
There are other psychological barriers too, like overly relying on local and traditional remedies, fear of seeing a doctor, perception of medical treatment being expensive etc. Such misconceptions keep the villagers from availing the treatments they need.
AIM for Seva has taken it upon itself to rectify this problem and one effective way of doing this has been by reaching out to people instead of trying to get them to access medical care. That was how the mobile medical program was started. A doctor and a nurse would visit 3-5 villages everyday in a medical van and attend to people in need of treatment.
In addition to medical treatment, health education is also imparted on various topics ranging from sanitation and hygiene to nutrition and natal care. The villagers are taught on the importance of the fact that prevention is better than cure.
