The Swami Dayananda AIM for Seva Chatralayam for Girls, Yelahanka, Karnataka has emerged to be a seat for volunteers to come and spend quality time with our children. There are school and college students dropping in, working professionals spend their Sundays with the kids as well as retired professionals like Smt. H. R. Gayathri who have been constantly rendering their support to the hostel students.
Smt Gayathri a resident of Akshaya Nagar in Yelahanka has been an educationist for the last 20 years. But it is Indian music that she loves the most. So, after her retirement, she decided to spend productive time with children. This enthusiasm brought her to AIM for Seva and she started teaching music to our 45 children living in the Swami Dayananda AIM for Seva Chatralayam for Girls in Yelahanka, Karnataka. Smt Gayathri’s association with the hostel is five years old and she comes in every Friday to share her knowledge and give our children a fantastic musical experience.
She teaches classical music, Kannada, Devarnamas and Sanskrit slokas to children. “Music is the best way to unite and bond with children. They enjoy singing the notes and in the process get to know about slokas and values of Indian culture,” says Smt. Gayathri.
