The first edition of the India Organic Fair 2018 got off to a flying start on September 7 .
Organised by Spirit of the Earth, an initiative of AIM of Seva, the first ever organic fair is being held in Chennai from September 7 to 11 2018 with concept support from the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
In her welcome address, the Chairperson and Managing Trustee of AIM for Seva, Smt Sheela Balaji said this event would showcase sustainable living. “We would like to make India Organic Fair 2018 a national movement from Chennai,” she said.
This was followed by an enlightening presentation on folk varieties of rice by guest of honour, Dr K Vijayalakshmi of CIKS (Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems) .
Sabarmatee Tiki, one of the Nari Shakti award recipients of 2018 and founder of NGO Sambhav, was the guest speaker at the inaugural function. She shared her personal journey of how her organisaton Sambhav successfully managed to cultivate 49 varieties of rice this year over a stretch of land that was once barren.
The chief guest at the inaugural event at India Organic Fair 2018, M Murali, managing director, Sri Krishna Sweets said that the next edition of India Organic Fair should be bigger. On a lighter note he added that the time had come to develop rice SKUs (stock keeping units) and sell it as the country had such a rich bio diversity.
