Educating rural area is fraught with two main challenges, last mile accessibility and drop-outs. We have been able to address both through our innovative approach–Free Student Hostels.
There is an interesting origin to this proof of concept. A chance meeting of our Founder Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati with a tribal Irula woman in Anaikatti (near Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India) revealed that the last mile education conundrum in India could be resolved by establishing a hostel network across the country which were situated in close proximity to a school. Students could live in this place and attend the nearby school. The hostel environment would be clean and neat and would focus on providing an education plus support. This includes tuition, fortified food, yoga music and other extracurricular activities.
Within a year of its founding, the first Free Student Hostel was built in the place of revelation, Anaikatti and the project was fully funded by Swamiji’s devotees from Michigan in USA.
Over the last 17 years, we have set up 97 Free Student Hostels across 17 states where we propagate value-based education to children from rural India
