February 2018 was a momentous month for 19 year Rahul Gaur, a student of our Chatralayam at Karnaprayag , Uttarakhand. On February 13, Rahul came first in the 800 metres race at the state level championship held at the Maharana Pratap Sports College, Dehradun. As a prize, he was awarded a Hero Scooty.
But this was just the beginning of the good tidings. Eight days later, he came to know that he has been selected in the Garhwal Regiment of the Indian Army. Rahul is now gunning for the national championship and then the Olympics and he is certain that the Indian Army would support him in this endeavour.
Rahul attributes his success to the discipline of his hostel life and the importance of being focused that was constantly reiterated by his warden, Vinay Purohit of the Chatralayam at Karnaprayag. “I used to get up at 4 am everyday and do running practice in the roads and fields of Karnaprayag. After coming back, I would do Suryanamaskar,” says Rahul.
He followed a similar exercise regime in the evenings. After coming back from school and doing his home work, Rahul would repeat the early morning routine. We wish him all the very best.
