Five voices one soul

It was a musical confluence that brought five talented artists together. It was a rousing anthem that each artist brought to life, with a touch of individuality and a stroke of genius. It finally resulted in a compact disc, the sale of which lit up the way for many young children looking to find a future.
Bharata Desha Hitaya, written and composed by Swami Dayananda Saraswathi in 2001, had started off as an anthem for AIM for Seva. But now, it would find its place in the hearts of millions across the country as five eminent artists of carnatic music offered their interpretation of the song. Set in 'Desh Raag', Bharata Desha Hitaya was beautifully vivified by Sri. Maharajapuram S. Ramachandran, Sri. T. M. Krishna, Sri. N. Vijay Siva, Sri. P. Unnikrishnan and Smt. S. Sowmya.
An audio release of the CD was held in Chennai and the first copy of the CD, which contained the renditions of all the five singers, was received by Sri N. Murali, MD, The Hindu from Swami Dayananda Saraswati. Sri. P. Unnikrishnan, Sr. T.M. Krishna and Sri. Maharajapuram S. Ramachandran were also present at the function.
Subsequently, the CD was offered to all who came forward to make a minimum contribution of Rs. 500 to AIM for Seva. This contribution would go towards covering the cost of three meals for a period of ten days for a child at an AIM for Seva Student’s Home (Chatralaya) or a complete set of school books for a year or the child’s annual medical requirements.
The song and the cause behind it highlighted the belief of Swamiji that “caring is the very essence of our culture”.
In step with India's heartbeat
It was a mélange of 12 students from Kalakshetra who brought to life the message of global welfare and the well-bring of the country. It could have well been a dance recital that was performed to the rhythmic heartbeat of a billion Indians.
Tradition and timing, excellence and enthusiasm, art and accuracy blended in a neat rendition of the Bharata desa Hitaya anthem written and composed by Swami Dayananda Saraswathi. The performance was choreographed by Smt. Nirmala Nagaraj under the direction of Ms. Leela Samson, Director of Kalakshetra
Foundation, and highlighted the fact that across the country, humanity can be embraced throughcompassion.
Interestingly, the dancers who came together for this performance were the perfect example of this fact, as they hailed from different stages of India, including north-eastern states like Meghalaya.

The song was composed in Desh, Vasanthi and Sallapam ragas, with music for the dance performance beingscored by Hari Prasad. Dr. Padma Subramaniam, a renowned exponent of Bharatnatyam and an ardent supporter and trustee
of AIM for Seva, was the Chief Guest for the evening. Swamiji presented mementoes to all the dancers.
The event was held on January 20, 2008 at the Kamarajar Kalai Arangam in Chennai.
